Bits and Bites – September 2018

Working Holiday – What a fantastic opportunity

Wow - I have just had the most amazing experience! For the past 7 weeks my husband and I have been travelling in the USA with the majority of time (5 weeks) based in New York. This has been one of those things I have always wanted to do and now that all our children have turned 18, we were finally able to take the leap.

There were many highlights of the trip, but my favourites would have to have been visiting the US Open, participating in a walking tour of Greenwich Village, taking in the skyline of Manhattan from a roof-top farm in Brooklyn and completing an intensive film-making course. All of that constitutes work…..doesn’t it?

I was also fortunate to visit Chicago to speak at the FSPCA conference and Toronto (Canada) to meet with Paul and the team at the Gluten Free Certification Program. Travels also took us to Washington DC and Wichita, Kansas to catch up with friends who were long over-due for a visit from some Aussies?. We hope to re-visit these places again as three days in each was not enough to fully explore the many food, music and tourist experiences available.

All-in-all, my first official working holiday was a great success. I was able to keep working remotely with my constancy clients and also keep on-top of the majority of HACCP Mentor email requests and virtual training. It has definitely laid the foundation for many more to come.

Allergen Control Group Partnership

It is with great pride and honour that I announce my new partnership with the Allergen Control Group. The Allergen Control Group operates from Toronto, Canada currently owns and operates the Gluten-Free Certification Program (GFCP) and is North America’s leading subject matter expert in the field of gluten-free and allergen food-safety compliance and marketing.

As part of my role with the Allergen Control Group, I will be acting as the “Digital Training Manager” where I will help to co-ordinate and manage the online training activities for both the gluten free-certification program and other allergen management training initiatives.

If your business is in the ‘business’ of promoting or claiming gluten-free on any of your food products, please check out how your products can be formally recognised through the Gluten Free Certification Program.

      Food Safety Consultant Portal

Starting and running a food safety consultancy can be a hard and lonely road and unfortunately there is limited help available. I often get asked for support from new and up-and-coming consultants. Instead of continuing to answer multiple questions individually, I am considering putting together a food safety consultants’ section as part of this website. If this is something that you would find interesting (even as a get-together for more established consultants) please let me know by registering your interest below.

        Upcoming Food Safety Live 2018

My topic for this year will be on Educating Consumers on Maintaining Food Product Safety. The online conference is scheduled for Wednesday 17th October 2018.
