Food allergies and food intolerances can be unpleasant, complicate life and in the worst cases, are fatal.  You and your food business has a moral and legal responsibility to ensure that the food you manufacture and handle does not become contaminated with undeclared allergens.

Allergen Awareness is an entry level / intermediate course which has been designed to give you a fundamental understanding of food allergens and how they affect “at-risk” consumers”.  It also provides you with a basic understanding of the seriousness of food allergies along with your role in the allergen management process.

The training is presented in interactive format which breaks down key learning’s, steps and processes in an easy to understand format. You can choose to complete the course all-at-once or in smaller time blocks to suit your schedule.

FSMA Compliance: This course has been designed to provide you with basic food allergen knowledge. Successful completion may contribute to your compliance with the definition of a qualified individual, as described under §117.4 Qualifications of individuals who manufacture, process, or hold food.

This course has been personally developed by Amanda Evans-Lara who is a qualified trainer and auditor with over 20 years’ experience in food safety.

At the completion of this course, it is expected that you will be able to:

  • Define what a food allergy is
  • List common allergens of concern within the local environment
  • Identify the impact that food allergy has on individuals and the wider community
  • Demonstrate an understanding of why the food industry is required to manage allergens
  • Recall different food handler responsibilities and GMP’s relating to allergen management
  • Explain the concept of allergen cross contact and the potential for cross contact in a food production process
  • Outline key legal requirements relating to allergen labelling

PRE-REQUISITE

There is no pre-requisite knowledge required for this course.

This training is suitable for all food personnel including production and service employees, food safety supervisors, HACCP team members, QA professionals, food auditors, administration support, food consultants, contractors and senior management.  This is a great course to develop your food allergen knowledge or as a refresher to your current knowledge.

AWARDS AND CERTIFICATES

A Certificate of Competency will be provided after you have successfully completed this course (including the knowledge assessment). The criteria to earn a Certificate of Competency and corresponding CEUs for this course includes:

  • Successfully completing each of the course lessons, topics, activities and final assessment
  • Achieving a pass mark of 70% or more on the final knowledge assessment

What is 'On-demand' training?

On-demand training is delivered electronically over the internet.  It allows you study at your own speed, stopping and starting as needed.

What equipment and IT do I need to be able to access this On-Demand training?

Equipment

You computer device needs to have the capacity to deliver sound and video. Training can be viewed on both desktop and mobile devices. A desktop device is preferred when completing any assessments.

Internet Connection

You must have a stable internet connection.  The minimum viable connection speed to reliably stream videos used in our training material is about 768 kilobits per second (equal to .768 megabits per second). We recommend a connection speed of at least 5 megabits per second for an optimal experience with HD capability.

Operating Systems Supported

The HACCP Mentor training system is able to be viewed on almost every OS including Mac OS, Windows and Linux.  We also work with all of the major browsers and versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Opera, etc. Online training delivered through the HACCP Mentor website uses online content which will work on any browser that supports HTML5.  We recommend the use of the current version of Chrome.
