Performance and security updates to the HACCP Mentor website

At HACCP Mentor we are focused on making sure that our website is one of the most innovative, fast, and secure food safety compliance platforms available. Over the past few weeks, we have continued to improve our site by implementing several new security updates and measures.

Firstly, we added reCAPTCHA to our login and contact forms. reCAPTCHA uses an advanced risk analysis engine and adaptive CAPTCHAs to keep automated software from engaging in abusive activities on our website. We have also now upgraded our server to accommodate Layer 3 & 4 DDoS protection, a powerful new CDN, and more effective lossless image compression. Additionally, our server now supports HTTP/3. HTTP/3 accelerates HTTP requests by using QUIC, which provides encryption and performance improvements compared to TCP and TLS.

Why does this matter? You may have heard over the past 12 months the food and agriculture sector being hit by multiple cyber-attacks. Some of the more widely advertised ransomware attacks included:

  • A US bakery’s inability to access its server, files and applications halting their production, shipping, and receiving after the Kaseya incident.
  • In May 2021, the now famous JBS Foods cyber security event occurred, which disrupted meat processing across North America and Australia for nearly an entire week.
  • In April 2021, in the Netherlands, cheese deliveries were held up for three days following a ransomware attack. Other food products also remained out of stock for some time.
  • A November 2020 ransomware attack on a US-based international food enterprise occurred. The group ultimately avoided paying the $40 million ransom by restoring systems from backups.

With risk management principles continuously at front of mind, HACCP Mentor continues to monitor and mitigate against any potential attacks on its website, learning management system and server. This will allow visitors to feel confident that their visit to our website remains as secure as possible.
